Short-Term Goals

Now that I graduated with my Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree (BSN) and passed the NLCEX on my first attempt, I look forward to starting my professional Nursing career in an ED or an ICU. I am drawn to these departments because they require nurses to be able to adapt and respond to new demands at a moment’s notice.

My first few months of working as a Nurse will set the foundation for my career. I hope to work with a team that will give the opportunity to practice my critical thinking skills, efficiency in communicating with medical teams and patients, and develop good judgment.

Long-Term Goals

I plan to continue my education by pursuing a Masters in Nursing Education. I hope to work part-time as a Clinical Nurse Instructor with a university while maintaining the ability to practice Emergency Medicine or Critical Nursing.

I also plan to obtain my Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) and work as a Nursing Professor. Becoming a Nurse means committing to a profession that requires lifelong learning. I get a personal sense of accomplishment when I coach others. I plan to share the knowledge and experience that I will gain with future Nurses.

About Me & My Profession

I’ve lived in Chicago practically my entire life and I’ve known that I wanted to be a Nurse since graduating high school. I see myself as a nurse who will treat the entire patient. When I volunteered as a Medical Interpreter at a community clinic for the uninsured, I witnessed how access to healthcare impacts more than the individual patient, it can benefit entire families as well. This only happens when we treat the patient’s holistic needs and not just their symptoms. I understand that there are limitations when it comes to time and resources, but I refuse to compromise my standards of practice.

You don’t stop being a Nurse when you clock out of a job. I plan to excel in my Nursing career by obtaining a Specialty Certification, attending conferences related to my field of Nursing, and volunteering.
